IMPLEMENTATION OF THE JOURNALISTIC CODE OF ETHICS IN THE DIGITAL AGE
Sari
Abstract: The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed journalistic practices, particularly in the production and distribution of news through online media and social networking platforms. Although digitalization enables journalists to deliver information quickly and reach wider audiences, it also creates challenges related to accuracy, verification, objectivity, privacy, and the spread of misinformation. This study aims to examine the implementation of the journalistic code of ethics in the digital era and identify the challenges journalists face in maintaining professional standards. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach through a literature review of relevant academic publications, journalistic ethical guidelines, and regulations governing the press. The findings indicate that the application of journalistic ethics remains essential in ensuring the credibility and accountability of digital journalism. However, pressure to publish news rapidly, competition for online engagement, and the circulation of unverified information may encourage ethical violations. Therefore, journalists need to strengthen fact-checking practices, maintain editorial independence, protect confidential sources, and respect individual privacy. Consistent enforcement of ethical standards, supported by media institutions and public media literacy, is necessary to promote responsible, accurate, and trustworthy journalism in the digital age.
