ANALISIS MAKNA LATAR NOVEL TABULA RASA KARYA RATIH KUMALA

This research is motivated by the analysis of the meaning of the novel background Tabula Rasa by Ratih Kumala. Meaning presented in a literary work is related to the meaning of life and living. Likewise in terms of background in the novel. By digging meanings in the novel, especially setting, readers will be able to find a link between the novel and the reality or the reality of life. This study aimed to describe the meaning of the background scene, meaning of time setting, and the meaning of social background in the novel Tabula Rasa by Ratih Kumala. The research is a qualitative study using descriptive methods. The object of this research is Tabula Rasa Novel by Ratih Kumala. Data collection techniques in this study are: (1) read and understand the contents of the novel as a whole, (2) conduct a study of literature related to problems in the study to be used as reference materials, (3) seek out and record things in the form of quotations contained in the novel that deals with the background of scene, time setting, and social background, and (4) to report or present the outcome of the case that has been investigated. While the steps in analyzing data are: (1) noted quotations relating to the background scene, time setting, and social background, (2) identify the data that has been obtained, (3) interpret the data with elements intrinsic search related to the background of the place, time setting, and social background, (4) concluded the data, and (5) a research report. The results of this study stated that the meaning of a place in the background of the novel Tabula Rasa is started when Galina and her family come to Russia. They had moved to follow the father's duty to become the ambassador of Indonesia to Russia. In Russia Galina lived in a flat with father, mother, and sister. Meaning of time setting depicted in the novel of Tabula Rasa by Ratih Kumala is a writer tries to introduce the historic event that there are in Russia. Social background that is reflected from the novel of Tabula Rasa by Ratih Kumala is the culture in Russia at the time of Mikhail Gorbachev.
